The total number of people employed in the Asheville metro area has increased as well over the last year and the unemployment rate has remained low
According to the 2007 Asheville Metro Economy Outlook provided by the Asheville Metro Business Research Center and the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce "four major activities have characterized the core strengths of the area. Together, these drivers have underpinned Asheville's special economic position and foretold its direction." These four sectors are Population Growth, Health Services Industry, Leisure & Hospitality Industry and Manufacturing Industries. "Currently all of these sectors are experiencing positive growth," states the Outlook.
The success of the leisure, hospitality, manufacturing and health industries in Asheville supports the number of new jobs created each year.
